The Major Changes to Social Media Platforms LinkedIn and Google Plus in 2012

[rank_math_breadcrumb]

Last week we looked at the changes that were rolled out by the big two social media platforms – Facebook and Twitter. This week let’s look at what 2012 had in store for LinkedIn and Google Plus users.

LinkedIn Changes in 2012

  1. Early 2012, the LinkedIn-Twitter partnership came to an end. Auto feeds from Twitter into a LinkedIn status update were stopped.
  2. LinkedIn Company pages went through a major revamp throughout the year. The look and feel of LinkedIn Company Pages went have changes dramatically. The company page now includes a large cover page with tabs to enter specific information. The whole theme is much more visual than ever before.

  3. Companies can now send status updates to a targeted audience. This is extremely useful when you want to send a message to a particular demographic or customer base.
  4. For personal profiles, LinkedIn tweaked the skills and expertise section. This will allow your connections to endorse individual skills that you have listed in your profile.
  5. LinkedIn’s new mobile and tablet apps are now totally synced with the web version. There is no longer a disconnect between the mobile version and the web version.

Google Plus Changes in 2012

  1. Google execs admit that Google Plus is not a social media platform, but more an enhancement to the entire Google Products and Services.
  2. Google Plus profile pages underwent a serious revamp. The Cover page was changed together with the menu strip.
  3. Google Event pages were introduced and became the talk of the town.
  4. Google Plus also introduced Local. A feature that allows companies and individuals to look at reviews and recommendations of places around them.
  5. The big announcement that we were all waiting for – custom URLs for pages and profiles.

Similar to Facebook and Twitter, the major theme for both Google Plus and LinkedIn were redesigned cover pages with a focus on business. Both companies addressed the growing mobile subscriber base with the spotlight on providing targeted localised information. This reiterates the point I was making last week – the world have gone SoLoMo (Social.Local.Mobile). Hence we have now soft launched our newly branded site solomoit (which is now a trade name for ICT Internet Presence Pty Limited or formally ICTIP – a development company owned and operated by us)

We will wrap up for the year by looking at how Pinterest changed our lives in 2012. Seasons Greetings to you all! A new mobile app will be released in the near future for Android and Apple platform so that in the new year can view our weekly newsletters and articles with the touch of your finger via your favourite smart mobile devices including your iPads/Tablets.

In other exciting news, my company Logan Nathan Pty Limited was ranked number one for Social Media Marketing by Top SEOs Australia.
