Are you losing business without a mobile friendly website presence?

Recent years have seen much hype surrounding social media and how companies can benefit from it. Today, social media has become a business norm and the focus has shifted towards mobile. With the world moving towards Social, Local and Mobile (SoLoMo) media, it has become imperative for businesses to make the shift towards mobile.

It is no longer adequate to have a mobile friendly website; you need to supplement it with tablet versions of your websites as well, in order to attract more customers. The digital shopper is used to a customer centric business model and not a product centric one. This means deep levels of customisation based on the customer’s location, browsing habits and social media activity.

At present, Australia is the leader in smart phone adoption in the world. Research by Buddle indicates that there are six million more phones than people in Australia and that the smart phone market will reach 60% penetration by end of 2012. This goes on to reinforce the fact that web presence alone is no longer going to cut it. Businesses need to address the growing mobile market or risk losing those customers to their competitors.

If you are still not sure of the power of mobile this new data from Google will most likely change your mind.

As indicated by the image above, up to 67% of respondents say a mobile friendly site means they are more likely to buy the product or service. But going mobile alone is not enough, keep in mind these best practices, published by Google.

  • People accessing via mobile or tablets are usually doing so on the go and it is essential that the navigation buttons are user friendly.
  • Most users use their thumbs for clicking and zooming. So make sure your site is geared for that.
  • Remember the three click rule for websites? Well, with mobiles it needs to be one. This ensures greater conversion rates.
  • Mobile provides the perfect opportunity to be local.

Even at this point, you may be wondering why you need to go mobile, especially when, you have a great product and brand engagement. However, customer perception about your brand will change quickly if you don’t make the switch. The digital consumer is used to information finding him and is not prepared to work hard to find it.  So if you don’t find your customer they won’t find you!
