Open Table – Foursquare partnership – A step in the SoLoMo Direction

[rank_math_breadcrumb]

SoLoMo was a buzz word and year ago, but today it’s an undeniable business opportunity. There are plenty of location based apps that allow you to locate the nearest store, to call a delivery service and get deals. Thanks to Foursquare, we can “check-in” our location and let our friends and connections know we are. The more you check in the more deals you can unlock, based on your location.

Well, life just got sweeter. Foursquare has partnered with Open Table, to offer you with an in-app reservation. This means – you can make a reservation, without leaving Foursquare.

Making your dinner reservations, just got easier. But it’s also much more than that. Let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture. When Foursquare first started it was a location based check-in service. But with this new partnership, Foursquare has thrown down the gauntlet – Google, Yelp, Loopt, better watch out. Foursquare has seamlessly integrated, the biggest business trend – Social, Local and Mobile.

Through the 2.5 billion check-ins generated from its 25 million users, Foursquare can predict user behaviour, recommend locations, tell us the places our friends have been and much more. This information will be vital, as users interactivity via smart phones and tablets increases. Speaking at the Data Gotham 2012, Blake Shaw of Foursquare, discussed what can be learnt from the check-in habits of New Yorkers and how that can change the way we interact with the city.

Using the data collated by a platform like Foursquare, we can now identify patterns of human behaviours, neighbourhood and community mapping, popular restaurants and their peak times and much more.

What this essentially means is that companies can now run extremely targeted and personalised advertisement and engagement campaigns, that are focused just on a community. You know the best location to set up your next store or open your next restaurant, simply by looking at the geographically movement of people via social networks.

This proves that SoLoMo is a very real phenomena with enormous business potential that will shape the way brands interact with customers.
